How I Started My First Blog

Blog Business family getting started life simplify teaching Tyra

I  have had a passion to start blogging for some time now, but wasn’t quite sure how to get started. From time to time, I would see myself with a successful blog and eventually a book.  Allowing readers into a piece of my mind was a scary thought and would paralyze me with fear.

However, my past has been filled with many scary things so I thought “what’s the worst that can happen.” Fear paralyzes a lot of us from going after something(s) we are passionately interested in.

So, as I am writing this to you I have finally done it and started my blog. I must say that I am proud of myself for jumping out of my comfort zone. If starting a blog is of interest to you, allow me to share a few things that I’ve learned along this journey. The three things that are crucial when creating your own blog are: 1. Great Pictures Pictures do speak a 1,000 words. Its true. As I have researched many other bogs and what it is they focus on; I have to say it isn't always the content but the pictures. They draw a person in as if they are right there in the scene, at the moment. While content is very important and will keep a reader engaged, pictures can first attract them. 2. Great content Content is important because usually people want to read your blog for what you will either teach them or inform them. A new reader who is trying to figure out if they trust you, like you, or you have something for them; will develop this through the content. There is so much information to be shared through blogging. It allows a person to quickly share their thoughts, opinions, pictures, knowledge, experiences, and vacations. There are lots of books available for any of this material, but blogs are easy to access online and the best thing...they are FREE. If a person can learn something of value from you they are more likely to come back for more. Its important to keep readers engaged. 3. Great Layout The way your blog is organized makes it easy for readers to follow. A person will be able to tell in the first couple minutes if you're material is something they are attracted to to not. Colors, font, headings, and logos, are also important and will attract readers. Is the material easy to follow and understand? Is the contact information easily accessible for questions or comments?  Is there a way to stay connected so they know when to expect another blog post?  The easier someone can find information they are looking for, the more likely they are to read, sign-up, and even pass along your blog site to others to read as well. Ultimately, helping you grow your audience of readers.

So, there you have it. Great Pictures, Great Content, and Great Layout are 3 crucial points to remember when starting a blog cite. Of course there is much more that goes into maintaining a blog, but this will give you a place to start.

Happy Blogging. Tyra
